    MSA - STM

Looks like the MSA are trying to ban STM's from the Production Class. I know that Shiftspark has already run into this problem, but this seems to be a concerted effort. The proposed rule changes are badly written, so any of you licence holders who would like to join the objections, there is a...

    Master Class

Yesterday I did my first sprint on a proper race circuit - Castle Combe, quite an experience, so very different from the hills - the circuit was so wide that I almost did not know where to go and of course was driving at much higher speeds - 100 plus. Still getting some confidence in the DC5...

    197 engine

I finally have just had a look. Main visual changes are to the inlet manifold - fatter and shorter, which is obviously intended to help the top end - looks like the lower half may be the same as the 182, coils built into plug caps and modified head casting/cam cover to accommodate more...

For sale - Four Genuine Trophy Wheels and Track Tyres

Wheels are as new, lovingly polished even on the inside. Tyres are 60% worn Kumho V70A soft - the only make available in the correct size. Warning, they are brilliant in the wet, but not in standing water (only have 4mm tread when new)- also being soft they pick up every little bit of grit and...

197 Cup racer - adapted for road by the factory

According to a brief article on the Whatcar website this is due to be launched soon. 205 bhp - excess weight stripped out - different suspension - undergoing SVA at present. Sounds very exciting until one reads the price; an estimated £27,000. Has anyone seen any more details?

    Front Dampers

As one of the embarrassed enthusiasts who in trying to unpin the adjuster managed to break the adjuster shaft, I have just taken them off the car for reconditioning. The good news is that they were easy to remove and that the strut top nut (21 mm) was not difficult to undo. The top mount...

    Angelworks & Pagid

My car is now back from Ben, who fitted cams, modifed inlet and a re-map. His only concern was that as the car has only done 4,000 miles, all on the ex-factory full synhthetic oil, that the rings may still not be fully bedded in - wants me to use ordinary mineral for a while - and so installed a...

    Nearly, but not quite unfaithfull

I was very excited to read about the new Japanese Civic type R. Apart from a boring 4 door saloon body, the prospect of 225 PS, 8,400 rev limit, reasonable torque, Brembo 4 pot callipers, 18" lightweight rims, gear type LSD, proper independent rear suspension etc was very tempting. Still not a...

Buy your performance cars sooner than later

I have just been reminded that in 2011/2012 the 'fleet average' emissions come donwnot 120 gms/km. It is about 160 plus at present - and the 197 as an example is 209. Goodness knows how it will be achieved; I would guess that low volume exotics will stay for the high price halo effect, but...

Grey Imports - the Japanese Yen

If anyone is thinking about doing this and paying direct to Japan, the yen is at all time lows, so there has never been a better time all other things being equal. As far as we can tell the dollar will contniue to weaken medium-term, albeit with ups and downs on the way, which tends to drag the...

    Christmas Greetings

Just wanted to wish every one a Happy Christmas (you know that old fashioned not entirely PC event) and many Trophysmiles in 2007. This forum has been as friendly and fun and informative as one could wish - thanks to everyone, including our very enthusiatic admin and moderators. Just hope...

    Rev counter feed?

I am in the process of fitting a more visible change up light system - with several lights and want to trigger it from the same feed as the rev counter. Does anyone know how to identify the wire and whether there is an easy position to splice into it? I have tried the feeds on the coil pack and...

Low mileage cars - save on service costs

Because I have only done 2,800 miles in the first 12 months it made sense not to bother to replace the pollen filter - which I gather saves a fair amount of money. Just a thought.

Rattling seat - Names of dealers who have cured

I know this has been covered before; my dealer admits there is a problem, but rather lamely claims not to know of a cure. Now some of you have had it fixed - might I please trouble you for the names of the dealers who did it, or even a Renault UK reference if there is such a thing. Thanks very much.

    Autocar - 19 July - Clio 197

They tested it against the Astra VXR and Focus ST, and in many ways it came out on top. Obviously not the quickest, but ride and handling were better than the Focus. Not much slower to 60, but 2-2.5 secs slower ot 100 mph. Interestingly its weight is a killer - it is slower than their test in...

    Limited Slip Diff

I reckon that this may be the ultimate track mod. Quaife do the ATB for £865 plus fitting and VAT. Through work I may be able to do something else, but would need a standard one including final drive to look at - can anyone help?

Nik, using the info in the owners section is there anyway in which you could produce a list of where everyone is located, so that we can get in touch with nearby owners? Regards

    Air intake

Looking at the air intake behind the n/s headlamp it appears to have an external bellows connected to the inlet manifold by a vacuum pipe. Presumably this is to do with emissions? Does anyone know exactly how it works and what happens if the pipe is disconnected, as I would guess is the case...
