Reason for asking is that I am searching for new RHD Xenon headlights, but can only find LHD units by Hella (OE), TYC, Abakus, Depo & Johns.

What puzzles me is why there is so much choice for LHD units?

Browsing through EU eBay Motors sites of cars for sale, the answer is very few.

Any replies are much appreciated.

I would guess about 1 million+. Clio Sports is only a fraction of course but amongst the 5.6M total MK2 production output I would estimate 20% and may be more were "Initiale "version or whatever it was called in UK which had xenons as standard plus all other versions which had xenon as an option and given the LHD market should be about 90% of the total output. UK is only 5% of the market, don't think regular clio was sold in Japan and Australia+South Africa+ Indonesia could make an other 5% (certainly less though). That means RHD versions should only be about 20,000.

If higher version was only 10%, it would still mean LHD xenon: 500,000, RHD xenon: 10,000

Thank you for a reply from France.

In the UK, the Initiale was an equipment/trim option that included headlight washers, so I assume that included Xenon`s.

However, only 1400 out of approx 300,000 Clio`s which were UK registered between 2001 to 2005 had this option.(0.4%)

If you add these to the 2059 Ph2 172`s, 5222 182`s & 337 Vee`s, there were around 9000 cars in total with RHD Xenon`s, so your figure of 10,000 is very close to the mark.

Unless the Initiale was much more popular in LHD markets. it would only account for around 20,000 sales world wide, and I have not found any equipment levels that included Xenon`s.

Does the the 5.6M include all variants, including those manufactured in Brasil, I believe untill 2016?

Do you have any production numbers for LHD 172/182`s?

So my guesstimate was way off then. I was really optimistic on the Initiale version... 5.6M should not include MERCOSUR market but includes all Clio Campus built from 2006 to 2012 which none had xenons so my figure may be off by may be say 30%

I don't have output per market but may be just subtracting UK figures from total output will be enough: to estimate LHD portion.
Ph2 RS 172/172 cup: 24352
182/182 cup/Trophy: 14377
Ph2 V6: 1309

Thank you, that`s amazing.
I had no idea there were so many LHD as they never seem to surface.
Subtracting UK cars, that`s
Ph 172, Ph2 172 & 172 Cup 18312
182, 182 Cup & Trophy 8066
230 & 255 v6 551

Some of these will be RHD, sold as Lutecia in Japan & some I suspect in South Africa.

Where did you get these figures, and is there a break down into PH1, PH2 & Cups?

I got the UK figures from here.

The figures come directly from the Alpine factory in Dieppe

here is what I have
Clio sport Ph1: 14022 (excluding limited version)
Ph1 limited version: 522 (including 1 pre-production)
Ph2: 20776 (excluding 172 Cup)
172 Cup: 3576
182: 11973 (excluding Cup and Trophy)
182 Cup: 1852
182 Trophy: 552 (including 2 pre-production)

Strangely, Japan Lutecia sport (were regular non-sport version imported?) are LHD as for a japanese, an european sports car cannot be RHD and LHD gives an exclusive status in Japan :) see this advert. That's also why so many Delta Evo or R5 Turbo are re-imported from Japan at low prices because they are LHD. It may exist but I have never seen a clio sport in South Africa, highest versions I saw were 1.6 16V. Australia might be different though, I know there was like in Japan a F1 Team version there.

If you want to see LHD for sale in France, go to leboncoin.fr and search for Clio 172, Clio 182 and Clio RS (select "voitures" and "recherche dans le titre uniquement" and "année modèle max" = 2005 in the search options)

OK, I stand corrected, just found some South Africa Clio Sport 182 for sale not only 1.6 (which they call it Clio Sport as well...) and confirm Australia imported it as well
