All you need to know is its part of carcraft!

i.e. evil bloodsuckers.

What they do is offer a fair amount then pic holes to drop the price in the hope you say yes.

They offered £5750 for my Alfa 156 that was mint and when I got there they made up reasons why they could only go to £3750 so I promtly told them where they could stick their offer and left.

I hate that company with a passion. I have been for a look once or twice just to see different models of cars (never to buy) and the prices are frightening.

1 example was they wanted £15k for a Astra VXR which I estimated would be £12 tops at a franchised dealer. You then give em £99 pay £99 for 12 months then £589 for then next 4 years with a total close to £30k.

companys like this are the scum of the earth, praying on the naive & poorly informed, basically people only go there as a last resort because they cant get credit anywhere else and they know that and swiftly stick it up them with insane credit terms.
they are right up there with the likes of "bright house" and "crazy Georges" ( you would have to be) who also target the same kind of people with there criminal 30% APRs.

It does explain a lot them being part of carcraft. Carcraft offered my dad £10 for a car once, granted it was old and high mileage, but it's a bit insulting offering a price like that, they'd be better apologising and saying they wouldn't be able to take the car in p/x.

Some of the prices people have posted above don't seem much worse than I've had from main dealers though. After having Lookers telling me how good my trophy was, they went on to offer me £4200 for mine with 50k on. It made my decision to keep the trophy pretty easy.

What would you expect from a company who's aim, like any company, is to make money? They're not going to give you retail value for the car are they?! How would they make a profit out of that?!

It's essentially no different to part exchanging your car with a dealer.

They don't know anythinng about specialist cars because thats not what they do! They deal with everyday run of the mill cars. End of. Don't know why everyone is being so harsh and getting annoyed by this!!

Did you not see my post?

They offered me 5750 on the web for an alfa 156 which was a fare amount! I took it and they made up reasons why it was only worth 3750! I took it to a Renault dealer and got 5750 funnily enough!

They are an evil company that prays on people not in the know and with credit problems!

Then there is the other example of charging 30k total payable for a car that should retail at 12k

I went to carcraft a few years back. They offered me £5500 for my 1.5yr old FF182, 05 plate, 28k on the clock.
They then went on to say it had an induction kit on which they would have to put back to standard.
It had a full stainless Magnex on which they said some people didnt like.
This then put the price down to £4700??? I could have done this for nothing!!!
They also went on to say there seemed to be something wrong the the cv boots??? Which could put the price down even more! Now bearing in mind i paid £13000 for this car 1.5yrs earlier was just stupid!

I disagreed strongly with what they said, told them they didnt have a clue what they were talking about and left the building. As a left i saw a 172 with 52000 miles on it, think a 02 plate. Up for sale for £7000.

Had the cv boots checked under warranty and they were fine.

I sold the car 1yr later with approx 50k on it for £6000, still got ripped off but better than Carcrap were going to give me.

All companies like this are just there to rip you off big time.
Best off going to specialist garages, they know what they are talking about and looking at, even then your not going to get what you would private.

Ha ha ha! Lets get things into perspective! Harold Shipman was evil, carcraft are just trying to make money, and yes, they probably use underhand tactics but they are legitimate, and as I siad earlier, don't specialise in sports cars and modified cars, so I think it's naive to think you'd get more for a modified car. They just want a car they can sell quickly, and hence they want it to be in a condition that is saleable to Joe Public.

Surely as car enthusiasts, we all know this, so why do you go to these companies? I've nearly always bought and sold privately, (bar my 172 cup bought from Renault dealer (and no I wasn't ripped off and received very good service) because I KNOW that car supermarkets will offer me shit prices, and probably not the best customer service. And once you've bought the car they are never interested in aftercare. I can't help but feel it's just to have a moan, and to be able to slag them off.

Agree with that allmost all carcraft stock is WAY over priced ex lease/hire or company cars with big mileage and at usually more than from anywhere else

I don't bother with these companies for all of the above reasons!!!

Their market is for standard everyday cars so there is absolutely no point in going to see these kinds of companies with any cars other than that.

Their target audience - People with absolutely no interest in cars other than to get from 'A-B', drivers who can't be bothered to shop around for good prices and service etc etc.

You're better off trying to get a good deal at a dealership or specialist car garage as these guys know how much they're worth and how much they can make on them.
