any update on this?

mine did exactly the same thing today - just got the thing back :(

wouldn't go above 3k revs and wouldn't drop below 2.2k.... having to limp home in first gear up a 1 in 4 hill wasn't good.

my diagnostics haven't shown anything up with it which is bloody confusing, also the CC and limiter didn't work so i assume this could be an ECU, throttle or intake valve issue, maybe a combination of a couple of the above.....

Once switched off and back on it was fine.. mystifying, also - probably connected - it wouldn't start, it'd turn over but not catch, so it could be a fuelling issue - linked to the ecu....

it's going back to the bodyshop to see if they can pinpoint it, then onto RS tuning i think in the next couple of days if it does it again, i'll get to the bottom of it :!:

Just thinking years ago when i first got my FF182. Put about 5000miles on it then one day i got out the car to go into the shop and left the engine running as my girlfriend was in the car, when i came out it wasnt running any more, my girlfriend said the revs dropped then when back up a few times then it cut out. I tried to restart the car but no joy, it was turning but just wouldnt start. I walked home then about 30 mins later i went back, still it was just turning but wouldnt start, tried it about 7 times then off it went, drove it home, left it running for about 5 mins and seemed ok, turned off and guess what? It wouldnt start again.
So i hunted about the tinternet and found someone who had a similar issue on RS, it turned out to be the engine temp sensor, well not the sensor but the connector, if you remove your air box and look down on the side of the engine you will see it. I found one of the wires was loose, i refitted and put some insulating tape on for good measure. The car then started straight back up, i owned the car for 2 years and put 34000miles on it and it never happened again.

I can remember if there was any lights on the dash when it wouldnt start, only thing that sound similar is the fact that my girlfriend said the rev bounced between 500 and 3000 a few times then it cut out.
And i also seem to remember that i few times in the weeks leading up to this happening my temp guage would bounce between normal temp and up into the red.

Hmm thats worrying,

When I was coming up the A1 the other day, on cruise, the engine temp (which is usually rock steady 1 division above the middle) dropped down to about 1/4 of the way up the gauge, stayed there then returned, it did that quie a few times over the next few minutes, and then returned to normal. Havent had any problems since....strange

Thats more or less what i experienced before the stalling incident, like i said it was just a loose wire.
Ive been looking on RS site to see if i could find the post i looked at years ago but the search function on there is still crap even though its a new site.

Ollie, this sounds like the temperature sensor connection coming loose as Scott mentioned.

The limited revs problem is something else I think. I had it once in very wet conditions. I guess it's down to another quality Renault connection somewhere!

If your car cuts out because of the temp sensor problem and does not start again, you have to lock and unlock the car as the immobiliser kicks in when it cuts out, so you cant start the car.
Worked with me anyways. otherwise it took me ten mins and several attempts to start it again. :)

right after a month of on-off diagnosis i've tracked it down to the throttle body shorting out due to some sort of gremlin internally. I'm going to stick a different one on there when i get time and see if it proves a solution - steve, you may want to do the same thing as from what you said this sounds like your issue also.
