Am downsizing to pay for the rest of this season's racing and so selling the Trophy for funds. It's been a good experience, great car and staggered at how much running in it took before the engine loosened up and performance started to really appear. Now it's aproper little roller skate...
I have discovered that the Trophy is seriously unbalanced with the addition of weight at the rear. Specifically, fourteen bottles of wine and six of olive oil, plus lots of heavy luggage, on the 110mph sweepers of the Italian Autostrada.
So much so that I stopped several times to crawl under...
Have done 1300miles in my Trophy since mid-Dec. It has improved noticeably since then, but I still find it underpowered. I would expect more from a lightweight car with 2-litre 16valve engine - it just doesn't pull like I was expecting. A test drive I had in a standard 172 two years ago seemed...
I gave a cheery wave. The only nice part of a hamstrung running-in blat around the local roads; just so much dawdling traffic and zero opportunities to overtake. White-haired wrinklies in Hond Jazzes; cool mommas in Chelsea tractors. Damn!
I have bounced off the rev limiter a few times now at around 6,700rpm. The rev counter shows a red line at around 7250rpm. Is this a miles thing - have done ~1200 - is it a problem, or are they all like that? It feels like it could easily do more revs and I could certainly use them when overtaking.
