Well, I've now done 2 more trackdays in my second Focus RS (an04 reg I bought last month with 1200 miles on the clock!) and need to revise some of the above comments:
It understeers less than the Trophy on track, oversteers easily in the wet if you lift off, (not surprisingly), the brakes are...
I worked out the second one as the bit just before Brunnchen, but couldn't manage the first.
See you there in May ?
I'll try to get there in April too, it's open every Sunday plus the days around Easter.
I just thought I'd tell people that I've sold my Trophy.
I've done 10,000 miles in 5 months, half a dozen trips to the Nurburgring in it, and a couple of Bedford trackdays. I've only ever driven it to, on or from a track, it seems !
It's been great fun.
But rwd, 360bhp, the howl of...
I had the same problem with the temp gauge, the engine never cut out, no lumpy idle, just a dancing needle. The local dealer saw my in-car phone video ( tip for that found on this site, thanks! ) and replaced the temp sensor within a couple of hours.
Temp gauge was fine afterwards, but haven't...
I've got a 3.4MB guide to driving the 'Ring (pdf file) I could email people who are interested. It's very detailed, and combined with an overview like Nik's map, gives you a good idea of what you're in for.
But I don't really think of the harness as crash protection, more as a driving aid. You feel what's happening more, and you don't use the wheel for anything except steering.
It's not simple, but the instructions are clear. You basically clip and screw it onto the existing "tongue" on the seatbelt. It takes about 5 minutes, but I did need to follow the instructions.
I can't see from Sam's car where the harness is fitted to. Any ideas ?
I thought of getting this done before going to the Ring last Autumn.
In the end, I just settled, for the moment, for a CG-lock, available through Goldtrack trackdays at www.goldtrack.co.uk, or through CG-lock, though their...
Interesting stuff.
George, you seem only to be refining what Stromba said, saying things are a bit more complicated. So basically what he's saying is correct.
It's great to watch, but I timed his lap, thinking it sounded odd, and sure enough, it's around 6 minutes for the Nordschleife...
Something fishy there.
Cheers jon r, there's a renault dealer about 200 yards from where I'm staying in France this week, I'll pop in before my trip home tomorrow and get some cheap oil!
I went on a RS4 driving day at Silverstone in November.
The RS4s are comfy cruisers, lean a lot in the bends, and had weak clutches (2 failed during the morning session).
But they are deceptively fast, have good brakes, and if you listen hard, the engine sounds fine.
I also saw one at...
Still, the book figure is 182hp over ? what official weight ? 1.090 tonnes ?
Of course actual bhp / ton on the road will depend on loads of things.
I know what you mean, it's a scary place if you forget exactly how fast you can go on any given stretch. Scariest for me when I first went were the tight left hander just after the old start finish line that is like the steep left hander at Cadwell Park only with no run off when you start...
