Just a thought, but as the site gets bigger the running costs go up and it might be an idea to try to get some well known Clio specialists to provide a bit of backing. In return they get a small banner somewhere with a link to their own website.

Up to Mr.Crowcroft when he gets back really. Good idea though, sponsorship better than a subscription fee that would put more potential Trophy owners off from registering.

It's been discussed but never moved forward. If I continued to sell a similar volume at sensible margins I would be interested in a collaboration.

i know nik's looking at this, i discussed it with him about 2/3 months back. can't remeber what the outcome was though..... i think time was the limiting factor - the site needd some tweeking to accept ad's.

The danger is that it starts to look like some of the Golf and MINI sites. A bloody mess!

mini2 is the benchmark terrible forum. The minimalism of this site is what I like about it. As soon as you introduce banner ads you lose the appeal. As much as i would be pleased to sponsor, a nominal membership fee for all would be the way ahead, we all know who we like using without banners and I, like many others, am all over the Internet already anyway.

Noooo!

You have to be very careful if you are charging for a site such as this - what value would be added for the people paying? To be honest, if i tried to join up and found you had to pay I'd probably move onto the next site.

I think Nik has been considering funding for the site going forward, and I'm sure he has a few ideas that wouldn't mean the site was limited access for non-members, or destroyed by OTT advertising.

not sur eon the membership fee - i would pay it but the target for a site like this must be to get every trophy registered. I can only think a membership fee will put off people not entice them.

No membership fee to register your Trophy, but a small fee to see all the sections, particularly the technical and event threads?

In an ideal world, we would have no fees and no advertising but NIk has spent hundreds of pounds of his own money on this site and organising things like TRAX so somethings got to give.

One corporate sponsor might be enough, Renault for instance. As long as thay had no say as to the design or content of the site.

not sure Renault would stump up, but if we did i'm sure they'd want to put some form of advertising on it, and although this is a more specialist forum, would they want to have this forum and their own renaultsport one?

saying that though, if they left the control with the Nik then it might not be too bad, i for one am not a big fan of the current rs forum

couldn't be Reno as it would detract from the independant status.

Think the splitting of section - technical, discounts section (when we have one) etc???? is a good idea.

i was only thinking this the other day, but the flipside is you'll get loads of sub-forums if we're not careful and it'll make the site difficult to navigate.

Nik will be happy when he returns, loadsa ideas for him to look into! :p

The other problem with a Sponsor like Renault is that they would probably want to censor any negative comments about them or their dealers. They also probably wouldn't appreciate the modifications to the cars that many have undertaken.

With sponsorship, I was thinking along the lines of having a Sponsorship / Tuners / Suppliers section where all the companies that supported the site would have their contact details, a brief description of their services and a link to their website. That way it doesn't become too intrusive on the overall site format, but at the same time (for example) if you wanted to quickly locate a supplier of Orbisound zorst's, its just a click away.

This doesn't seem to be the case with the Renaultsport forum, there are some really angry threads running on there about how piss-poor Renault customer service and build quality is. Jeremy seems to take interest in proper modifications too, in fact with all the tossers on there, it's refreshing to hear his opinion.

Fantastic idea Lee, and not that far away from what we have now (if you click on a users name it brings up their details including website address and e-mail and sometimes a small description of the business in the signature). It would be easy to expand on this and take subscriptions from companies, and beneficial to all users.
