Sachs Suspension Dust Covers

Like most people I'm on the case to try and find where the dust covers come from, If they are a reanult item with renault part number or what. So as i have spoke to Renault dealerships with no joy and RUK i thought i would message a RUK Guru on the renault sport forum (Jeremy Townsend) who seems to be one of the experts for Renault road sports cars.

I sent the following message -

"Hi There Jeremy.

Im looking for some advise and help if possible with a certain part for my Renault Clio 182 Trophy.
I have bought a spare set of shocks (Genuine Sachs) for the front of my car to get a full refurbish at BG motorsport (Sachs Main Dealer) but I'm having a hard problem finding another part that no one seems to supply and this is the rubber dust cover / bump stop.
I have spoke to a couple of renault dealerships with no joy, I have spoke to sachs with no joy and i have also spoke to BG with no joy, I have taken a picture of the part which does have a couple of number but No renault part numbers.
Is there anyway we can find out who has made these or if there is a replacement unit for these ?

And then i get this response from them -

"Hi. Sachs or, in particular, BG, would be the experts for this. If they can't answer it, there's nothing I can add to it, sorry"

So it seems like Renault can't help with these at all.

I also contacted Sachs and BG with no success. I did find a company that makes gaiters but as I got the garage to swap my dampers before the MOT I didn't get chance to try to use the original covers to get ones made.

good do call,I heard about this company on here before but could not find them again when I searched on Google. I am not far from MK so could easily pop over to see them.

Got a response from Monster Sport and they are looking into it, Nicky from monster does have a part number and has contacted RUK with no luck so he is speaking direct with the Apline Factory In Dieppe as he has a contact there.

I have also had this information back from someone else from RUK

These where specified in France via RST, Therefore i would imagine it has not been
documented so well in the UK. If you quote the original ref to sachs this might help
Front = V18
Rear = H15

You should see the price of these from Monster Sport. They are £53 + VAT each !!

Update on this.

The part is a Renault part and the part number is 8200512418 but the bad part is that after almost 3 months of talks with Renault UK they no longer supply or make this part and it can not be had.
Renault uk have told me that after 3 months of talks with france at the alpine factory and some renault sport director that the part number is correct and it is the dust cover/bumpstop but they stopped making it and its no longer available to anyone.

I have spoke to monster-sport who are the people who do the Twingo R1 which comes with sachs racing dampers and they have said he can not get the part.
I then spoke to sachs / ZF and they have said they only supply the shock and not the cover and thats its a renault only part.
I then spoke to BG motorsport today and they have said they have not came across anything that will fit the sachs unit as of yet as the piston is thicker. BG have also tried to get Ohlins dust covers to fit but nothing as of yet.

I haver made a suggestion to BG and i await a phone call back regarding my idea but as of now you can not and will not be able to get a dust cover / bump stop for you sachs shock absorber.

My plan next was to try to get them remade, but as I had to get the dampers fitted for the MOT in a short space of time I could not measure them up. I have a spare set of dampers that are missing the dust covers.

I wonder if these guys could do something:

with maybe a metal shop making the top part? If they could be made for a reasonable price I would be up for 2 pairs.

When speaking the Renault UK today they said that the Twingo R1 damper has a different dust cover and bump stop but i don't see how.
Ben from BG was going to be speaking to nicky from monster-sport in the next couple of days so they are going to talk about the differences between the two covers.

BG also said that he had heard that a trophy owner was in talks with power flex about making the bump stop at the top as this can actually come away from the gaiter. if this was the case you would need to buy bump stops and gaiters separately.

I was thinking about getting a clio 182 FF/Cup ones and seeing with the size differences where and then possibly making the hole in the bump stop bigger so the piston would actually go through.

yeah, find some 2nd hand ones

im not convinced how well these work anyway, i have them on my car, and they ride up the shock over time, so do not really do much for protection

Er, that doesn't make ant sense, they are supposed to be as high up the shaft as possible. That way it keeps it covered and stops too much grit being rubbed up and down, maybe not a perfect solution but I know I would prefer to have them fitted

I would 100% run these.

I'm sure the boffins at renault sport put these on the sachs for a purpose.

I would not like to see what would happen running sachs with these off the car and what state the shocks would be after 6months.

As for getting them you have no chance unless they are going second hand but anyone selling sachs dampers without these are mad and anyway buying dampers without these on are even madder.

You can not buy these on there own as they come as part of the shock/ kit.
There is no part numbers on them and they are not made by Renault

Out of interest then Marc, if you were mental enough to actually order a set of shock from Renault at £4k or whatever it is currently. Would you receive a set of boots?
